Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Sorter/Donation Processor to prepare donations for retail sale or salvage in our on-site facilities in California. You will sort, clean, and process donated items, maintain a clean work area, and ensure safety procedures are followed during loading and unloading.

Qualified individuals will typically have a high school diploma or GED and must complete required safety training.

Basic Purpose

The Purpose of the Sorter/Donation Processor is to prepare donations for retail sale or salvage according to Salvation Army policy and production procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow procedure as it pertains to sorting, cleaning, preparing, shipping and receiving donated items for sale
  • Keep donation area clean and without debris
  • Sorting donations of clothing, furniture, electrical and miscellaneous household items
  • Loading donations for truck delivery
  • Adhere to all safety policies as it pertains to loading and unloading of trucks
  • Follow all accident and injury reporting procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized receiving and processing area
  • Determine which items are saleable, repairable or salvageable
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to proper dress code, with uniform as designated by direct Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications Requirements

Educational Requirements

  1. High School diploma or General Education degree (GED): or one or two months of related job experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Must complete and follow all safety training requirements provided by immediate Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to lift, bend, and stoop
  2. Ability to walk, climb and/or balance
  3. Ability to lift-up and/or move 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance peripheral, vision, and depth perception.
