Job summary

The position operates Monday–Friday 9:00am–6:00pm with occasional Saturdays, outdoors, in varying weather, and requires standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Experience in recycling, waste management, or labor-intensive roles is advantageous.
  • Ability to distinguish recyclable materials with accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and differentiate materials received at the facility.
  • Manually sort materials by type (paper, plastics, cardboard) to ensure proper recycling streams.
  • Remove foreign or non-recyclable items to prevent contamination.
  • Move and organize materials within the facility as needed.
  • Wear PPE and follow safety protocols to maintain a hazard-free area.
  • Assist supervisors on special projects and daily tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate with team to ensure smooth operations and report equipment issues.

Job description

Certified Waste Solutions provides waste solutions for commercial, industrial, and multi-family clients, enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability. Our Anaheim location is in search of a Sorter at this time. The Sorter oversees the daily operations of the sorting line, ensuring that recyclable materials are accurately identified and separated according to type. This role combines hands-on sorting and coordinating with supervisors on special projects, and maintaining safety and quality standards within the facility.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm, occasional Saturdays.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accurately identify and differentiate various materials brought into the facility
  • Manually sort materials according to type (e.g., paper, plastics, cardboard) to ensure proper recycling streams
  • Review materials for foreign or non-recyclable items and remove them to prevent contamination
  • Take boxes of materials and dump them into designated bins for processing
  • Assist in the movement and organization of materials within the facility as needed
  • Ensure a safe work area by utilizing appropriate safety equipment, including safety vests, gloves, protective eyewear, and steel-toe boots
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a hazard-free work environment
  • Work closely with supervisors to understand and execute special projects or tasks assigned for the day
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations and address any issues promptly
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned, which may include but are not limited to cleaning and maintaining work areas, palletizing materials for shipment or storage, loading and unloading trucks, assisting drivers as a helper during collection routes.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work is performed in an outdoor facility with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and dust
  • May require prolonged periods of standing
  • Requires standing, bending, and lifting materials up to 40 pounds regularly
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and manual labor tasks
  • Visual acuity to identify and sort materials accurately
  • Use of PPE as required by facility guidelines and adherence to safety practices are required
