Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• ARDMS license required; BLS preferred.
• Preferred: prior hospital or outpatient ultrasound experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations including abdomen, obstetrics, gynecology, vascular, small parts, and musculoskeletal studies.
• Review provider orders and patient history to ensure appropriate examinations are performed.
• Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, including quality assurance checks.
• Document exam information and technical factors accurately in the EMR and PACS.
• Participate in scheduling, workflow, and department meetings; cross-train as needed.

Reporting Relationship: Diagnostic Imaging Manager

General Summary of Position:

The Sonographer performs high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians and advanced practice providers in diagnosing and treating patients. This position provides compassionate patient care while producing accurate diagnostic images in accordance with department policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. The Sonographer ensures patient safety, maintains ultrasound equipment, and collaborates effectively with the healthcare team to deliver exceptional care.

Job Qualifications:

Education:

Required: High School Graduate or equivalent

Required: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

Experience:

Preferred: Previous hospital or outpatient ultrasound experience

License/Certifications:

Required: ARDMS license

Preferred: BLS

Essential clinical requirements:

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, small parts, musculoskeletal, and other studies within scope of practice.
• Review provider orders and patient history to ensure appropriate examinations are performed.
• Explain procedures to patients and answer questions to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
• Communicates and interacts well with the staff, allied health care personnel, physicians, patients and the community, so as to project a positive image of the department and the hospital, and to coordinate quality patient care with special attention to patient age and needs.
• Transport patients to and from various patients care areas being aware of individual patient needs.
• Position patients appropriately and obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
• Evaluate images for technical quality and completeness prior to submitting for interpretation.
• Recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and notify the interpreting provider of urgent findings according to department protocol.
• Document patient history, exam information, and technical factors accurately in the electronic medical record and PACS.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and ultrasound equipment cleaning protocols.
• Perform routine quality assurance checks and report equipment malfunctions promptly.
• Assist with scheduling and workflow to maximize department efficiency.
• Participate in department quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.

• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by meeting annual requirements for validation of competency in specified skills.

Expected work hours up to - 12 plus call
