Job summary

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Fenton is seeking a PRN Ultrasound Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and provide high-quality images for interpretation. Completion of a Sonography program and ARDMS/CCI registry within 12 months of hire are required, with BLS HCP certification and RDMS/RVS/RVT credentials preferred.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Sonography program and ARDMS/CCI registry within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS HCP certification from AHA is required.
  • RDMS Abdomen and RDMS OB/GYN certifications are required; RVS/ARDMS RVT credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and adjust ultrasound equipment; maneuver transducers for exams.
  • Maintain safety standards and perform quality control procedures.
  • Perform routine and complex ultrasound studies; assist in imaging procedures.
  • Identify structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations; ensure image quality and proper labeling in PACS.
  • Keep department clean, organized, and compliant with regulations.
  • Report equipment issues and coordinate maintenance as needed.

Requirements: Completion of Sonography program and ARDMS or CCI registry in Abdomen, OB/GYN, or Vascular within 12 months of hire. Relocation assistance is available for those who qualify. ** Qualified external candidates only

Job Summary: Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. The only registration requirement for this position is as a registered sonographer appropriate for the department in which the sonographer works.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning.
  • Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
  • Ensures prompt submission of all high-quality images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, images labeled correctly and patient data/history).
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms and any other areas in department.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Rare kneeling and sitting.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) Specialty - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Specialty - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
