Requirements: Completion of a Sonography program and ARDMS or CCI registry in Abdomen, OB/GYN, or Vascular within 12 months of hire.
Job Summary: Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. The only registration requirement for this position is as a registered sonographer appropriate for the department in which the sonographer works.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
- Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
- Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
- Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
- Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.
- Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports potential problems or equipment malfunctions; lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
- Ensures prompt submission of high‑quality images and documents to PACS (image quality, images labeled correctly, patient data/history).
- Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly department including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and other areas.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Completion of a Sonography program.

Physical Requirements
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (≤20 inches) and far (≥20 feet).
- Frequent hearing and speech for oral communication.
- Frequent hearing to distinguish body sounds and alarms.
- Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
- Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
- Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
- Occasional vision to identify colors.
- Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Rare kneeling and sitting.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) Specialty – ARDMS.
- Or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Specialty – ARDMS.
- Or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- Or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – ARDMS.
