Sonographer (PRN) – Obstetrics & Gynecology

Worker Type: PRN

Job Highlights:

• Location: MO-SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – St. Louis, MO

Requirements: Completion of a Sonography program and ARDMS or CCI registry in Abdomen, OB/GYN, or Vascular within 12 months of hire.

Job Summary: Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. The only registration requirement for this position is as a registered sonographer appropriate for the department in which the sonographer works.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

• Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
• Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
• Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
• Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.
• Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports potential problems or equipment malfunctions; lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
• Ensures prompt submission of high‑quality images and documents to PACS (image quality, images labeled correctly, patient data/history).
• Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly department including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and other areas.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• Completion of a Sonography program.

Experience

• No experience required.

Physical Requirements

• Constant standing and walking.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (≤20 inches) and far (≥20 feet).
• Frequent hearing and speech for oral communication.
• Frequent hearing to distinguish body sounds and alarms.
• Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
• Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
• Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
• Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
• Occasional vision to identify colors.
• Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Rare kneeling and sitting.

Required Professional License and/or Certifications

• Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) Specialty – ARDMS.
• Or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Specialty – ARDMS.
• Or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• Or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – ARDMS.
