Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a licensed ultrasound technologist to perform obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound exams at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham.

You will set up equipment, produce high-quality images, and document results in electronic health record systems while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The role requires graduation from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program and BLS certification within 30 days of hire; ARRT/ARDMS or CCI credentials should be achieved within 12

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
  • BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date (AHA or ARC accepted).
  • Cardiographic/Cardiovascular credentials or ARRT/ARDMS credentials must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams on pregnant and gynecologic patients to monitor fetal development and assist in treatment planning.
  • Sets up equipment and adjusts transducers to perform exams with safety and quality control.
  • Produces high-quality images and documents results in the EHR and PACS systems.
  • Maintains department cleanliness and complies with regulatory standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Schedule: Mon-Thurs from 7:30-4:30 and Friday 7:30-12:00

What You Will Do

Performs diagnostic procedures on pregnant women and gynecological patients to monitor fetal development, diagnose medical conditions, and assist in treatment planning.

  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex obstetric and gynecological ultrasound examinations using state-of-the-art equipment to create clear and accurate images of the female reproductive system, including fetal anatomy and development.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations; analyzes ultrasound images, identifies abnormalities and communicates findings to physicians and other healthcare providers to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel; locks out equipment if appropriate.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high quality images and documents to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history). Maintains accurate and detailed records of ultrasound procedures, patient information and results in electronic health record systems.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in the department.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
One Or More Of The Following
  • Cardiographic Technician credentialed from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained within 12 months of hire date or job transfer date, or a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) issued by CCI.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 12 months of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from ARRT obtained within 12 months of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained within 12 months of hire date or job transfer date.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or related field.
