Responsibilities

• Explain exams to patients and families prior to testing to ensure cooperation and optimal results.
• Acquire anatomical, pathological, and physiological data.
• Record and process sonographic data and observations made during procedures.
• Create preliminary reports for physician interpretation and review/signature.
• Assist physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
• Recognize equipment malfunctions and take corrective actions.
• Maintain adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
• Follow accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining various ultrasound images.
• Rotate as needed to cover absences of other sonographers.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
• Maintain or be eligible for ARDMS certification in OB/GYN.
• Provide evidence of continuing education credits.
• CPR certification required.

Experience

• Minimum six months experience in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
• Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in emergencies.
