Job summary

UNMH Jobs in Albuquerque seeks a pediatric cardiology sonography intern to assist with examinations, histories, and chart review under the supervision of a registered sonographer. You will participate in non-scanning portions of studies during internship, prepare rooms and equipment, and ensure safety and protocol adherence.

As you progress, you will perform routine studies, locate and view images in PACS, and interact using AIDET principles with patients across Neonate to Geriatric ages.

Qualifications

• Essential: Training
• CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
• Medium work: exerting 20–50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 50 lbs
• May travel to various work sites
• May work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
• Tuberculosis testing required on hire and as required

Responsibilities

• Assist Sonographer in preparing exam room and ultrasound equipment
• Assist Sonographer with reviewing patient medical history and supporting clinical information
• Assist Sonographer in ensuring patient safety during examination
• Assist Sonographer in conducting patient clinical assessment
• Assist Sonographer during diagnostic sonography examination
• Under Sonographer direction, perform/review scans and capture appropriate images
• Review images, synthesize results, and help prepare preliminary findings
• Assist with QA protocols and quality improvement measures
• Participate in equipment cleaning, QC, inventory and stocking of supplies
• Establish collaborative relationships with coworkers and healthcare team

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a registered (RDMS) Sonographer, performs sonographic studies commensurate with training to date and documented competencies. Assists with non-comped sonographic studies as part of the learning experience of internship. Participates in non-scanning portions of studies including patient history, chart review, associated paperwork, and patient assistance in accordance with staff orientation process. Upon completion of internship, staff member should be able to perform department-specific routine sonographic studies, begin/end exams in AS, locate, retrieve and view images in PACS, utilize AIDET during interactions with all patients, in the role of sonographer or assistant, escort patients to and from scanning area, clean and restock exam rooms. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities

• Assist Sonographer in preparing exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies and procedures
• Assist Sonographer with reviewing patient medical history and all supporting clinical information
• Assist Sonographer in assuming responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic examination
• Assist Sonographer in conducting patient clinical assessment
• Assist Sonographer during diagnostic medical sonography examination
• Under Sonographer direction, perform/review sonography examination to ensure appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images
• Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and assist with preparing the preliminary findings for use by the Sonographer
• Assist Sonographer with Quality Assurance protocols and quality improvement measures within the facility
• Participate in equipment cleaning, QC process and documentation, crash cart daily and monthly checks, inventory and stocking of medical supplies and linen, and evaluation of scheduled patients for appropriateness
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators and members of the healthcare team
