Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a skilled sonographer to perform routine and specialized ultrasound procedures across our hospital locations, selecting appropriate equipment and settings for each patient.

You will document patient care in electronic health records, support infection prevention standards, and participate in departmental improvement initiatives as a clinical preceptor or evaluator. RDMS/RVT certification and BCLS are required, with 3+ years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved and accredited Ultrasound Educational Program.
  • RDMS and RVT certification OR 2 or more RDMS certifications.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized sonographic procedures across locations.
  • Apply knowledge of sonography principles, anatomy, physics, positioning, and patient care.
  • Document accurate patient care activity in electronic health records.
  • Maintain safe work environment and inventory, and report equipment problems.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and act as clinical preceptor/evaluator.

Job Description

Under minimal supervision, performs routine and specialized sonographic procedures.

  • Executes clinical competence in Sonography in all locations across all patient types. Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient.
  • Actively participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the individual System hospital/location, meeting and maintaining all Program standards and requirements.
  • Applies knowledge of Sonography principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, physics, positioning and patient care skills. Appropriately performs high level disinfecting procedures to meet organizational infection prevention standards. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
  • Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
  • Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems and follows up for resolution, in accordance with policy.
  • Actively participants, and takes a leadership role, in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Participates as a clinical competency evaluator for students and/or a preceptor for employee training and educational activities.
Work Experience
  • Graduation from an approved and accredited Ultrasound Educational Program
  • 3+ Years
  • RDMS and RVT certification OR 2 or more RDMS certifications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
