Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an experienced sonographer to perform routine and specialized ultrasound procedures under minimal supervision across multiple hospital locations. The role requires clinical excellence, attention to patient safety, and accurate documentation in electronic health records.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved and accredited Ultrasound Educational Program.
• 3+ years of experience in Sonography.
• RDMS and RVT certification, or 2+ RDMS certifications.
• Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Executes clinical competence in Sonography across locations and patient types.
• Selects accurate equipment and factors for each patient and ensures age-appropriate care.
• Documents accurate patient care activity in electronic health records.
• Maintains supplies and reports equipment/environmental issues per policy.
• Leads departmental initiatives and mentors students or staff on training activities.

Under minimal supervision, performs routine and specialized sonographic procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Key Responsibility 1: Executes clinical competence in Sonography in all locations across all patient types. Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient.
• Actively participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the individual System hospital/location, meeting and maintaining all Program standards and requirements.
• Key Responsibility 2: Applies knowledge of Sonography principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, physics, positioning and patient care skills. Appropriately performs high level disinfecting procedures to meet organizational infection prevention standards. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
• Key Responsibility 3: Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
• Key Responsibility 4: Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems and follows up for resolution, in accordance with policy.
• Key Responsibility 5: Actively participates, and takes a leadership role, in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Participates as a clinical competency evaluator for students and/or a preceptor for employee training and educational activities.
