Job summary

The University of Maryland Faculty Physicians is looking for a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to perform various examinations in compliance with established protocols. Key responsibilities include ensuring patient comfort during exams, mentoring new staff, and maintaining accurate patient records.

The ideal candidate has completed an AMA approved Ultrasound Technology program, is registered or eligible for registration with the ARDMS or ARRT, and has a strong understanding of scanning techniques along with excellent patient communication skills. Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Ultrasound Technology.
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or ARRT in Sonography.
  • One to three years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various ultrasound examinations in accordance with protocols.
  • Mentor new technologists and staff.
  • Ensure required consent forms are signed.
  • Update patient history and document examination details.

Job description

Performs a variety of routine and specialized examinations including vascular sonography. Performs examinations in accordance with the established Ultrasound protocols and procedures. Ensures a smooth operational and productive workflow; and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in all section protocols established by the radiologists. Applies detailed knowledge of anatomy in order to produce images of high quality.
  • Assists in mentoring of new technologists and other support staff.
  • Pleasantly greets and introduces self to patients, verify their identification and the correctness of the examination to be performed.
  • Explains examination to the patient and family, if present.
  • Ensures any required consent forms are signed prior to the examination.
  • Scans patient for the proper Ultrasound examination and instruct patient as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.
  • Performs Ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
  • Updates patient history and record unusual conditions/limitations, document begin and end examination times in the RIS and add any billing charges if applicable in the RIS.
Education and/or Experience
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Ultrasound Technology
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography
  • Health Care Provider CPR certification
  • One to three years of related experience preferred
  • Requires working knowledge of proper scanning and body mechanics to reduce injury

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
