Shift: Thursday-Saturday, 7 AM - 7:30 PM

Job Overview

The practice of ultrasonography is performed by an ultrasound technologist responsible for administering high-frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to patients of all ages (from newborn to geriatric) for medical purposes. A Sonographer/Technologist performs ultrasonography procedures, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. The role integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and compassionate care to generate diagnostic information. Sonographers/Technologists must recognize patient conditions essential for successful procedures.

Responsibilities and Skills
  • Demonstrate understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Recognize patient conditions necessary for successful procedures and exercise independent, professional, and ethical judgment.
  • Act as the primary liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and support staff.
  • Maintain sensitivity to patients' physical and emotional needs through effective communication, assessment, and care.
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance assessment activities.
  • Think critically and use independent judgment in all work aspects.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance patient care and technical competence.
Scope of Practice

Includes performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations, assisting with interventional procedures, maintaining records, applying patient safety principles, verifying orders, preparing patients, and evaluating image quality. Also involves patient education, mentoring, and participating in quality assurance activities.

Licensure and Certification Requirements
  • Current certification by ARRT (S), RDMS, RDCS, CCI, or RVT.
  • For new graduates: Must attain certification eligibility within 12 months and pass within 6 months of eligibility.
Experience and Education
  • Preferred: 1 year of relevant experience and experience in an academic medical center.
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited sonography or radiologic technology program; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • Independent performance of ultrasound exams.
  • Adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
  • Weekend shifts; considered essential employees.
  • Physical activities include lifting, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, and computer interaction.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, high-demand environment with multiple priorities.
