Job summary

3M HEALTHCARE seeks a sonographer to perform ultrasound exams and produce high-quality images for interpretation. Completion of a Sonography program and ARDMS credentials (AB/OGYN) are requested; no prior experience is required. This on-site role supports a busy imaging department.

Responsibilities include equipment setup, safety checks, image labeling for PACS, and assisting in diverse procedures while ensuring clean, compliant work areas and timely documentation.

Job Summary

Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. The only registration requirement is a registered sonographer appropriate for the department in which the sonographer works.

Job Responsibilities
  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning, reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel, and locks/tag outs equipment when necessary.
  • Ensures prompt submission of all high‑quality images and documents sent to PACS, including correct labeling and patient data/history.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and any other areas.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies and works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Completion of a Sonography program.

Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Rare kneeling and sitting.
Professional Licenses or Certifications
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) Specialty – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Specialty – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
