Job summary

Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE is seeking an ultrasound technologist for an evening shift (4:00pm-12:00am) with 10% shift differential and on-call requirements. You will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, identify patients, explain procedures, and ensure high-quality imaging in a fast-paced department.

Responsibilities

• Exam performance and quality.
• Identify patient by ID band and birth date.
• Explain pending procedure to the patient.
• Position patient and expose appropriate body parts.
• Adhere to departmental guidelines and protocols.
• Perform exams as priority dictates and as directed.
• Critique exams for accuracy and correct as needed.
• Follow American College of Radiology guidelines.
• Review images with radiologist and discuss results.
• Manage workflow and assist physicians, patients and coworkers.
• Coordinate exam flow and provide status updates to staff.
• Be ready to fill shifts and trade days as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of Cerner and use Online Worklist.
• Verify images match orders and monitor order status.

Essential Job Functions

Exam performance/quality.

• Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date.
• Ensures patient understanding of pending procedure.
• Cover appropriate body parts and position patient correctly.
• Follows appropriate guidelines and departmental protocols.
• Performs exams as priority dictates and as directed.
• Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary.
• Follows American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.
• Check all films with Radiologist and discuss end results.

Workflow management.

• Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to exam.
• Willfully assists physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed and seeks opportunities to provide patient care.
• Understand and support the direction and workflow of the department.
• Maintain awareness of ongoing exams and assist co-workers as needed.
• Provide exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members.
• Relieves co-workers from procedures/exams as necessary.
• Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift.
• Have processes set in place to allow for leaving at the end of scheduled shift.
• Obtain and consolidate all images, reports and history with completed exam information for review.
• Take call. Coordinates inpatient procedure flow. (Hospital Only)
• Provides management of ultrasound department workflow and patient exam flow.
• Be willing and able to fill in shifts or trade days when needed at anytime.
• Heightened focus on efficiency.

Systems/Cerner.

• Maintain a working knowledge of Cerner.
• Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner.
• Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status.
• Verify correct images matched with order.
• Demonstrates knowledge of RIS/PACS/Navicare/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet/Nighth
