Job summary

McKenzie Health in Watford City, ND is seeking a Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams following radiologist protocols, explain procedures to patients, and ensure safety and comfort throughout the imaging process.

The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited ultrasonography program, registered with ARDMS, and capable of performing abdominal, pelvic, vascular, and MFM studies; ND state ultrasound certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasonography.
  • Registered by ARDMS; registry-eligible in Echo/Breast applicable.
  • North Dakota ultrasound certification or state compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound exams per radiology protocol and documents results.
  • Records images and completes required worksheets for interpreting Radiologist.
  • Ensures patient safety, explains procedures, and maintains comfort and modesty.
  • Follows ALARA principles to minimize dose while achieving diagnostic quality.
  • Performs abdominal, pelvic, small parts, heart, and vascular studies as needed.
  • Assists in training students and ancillary personnel.

Position Overview:

A Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound exams following interpreting radiologist protocols. The Sonographer verifies the provider’s order for accuracy and completeness; cares for the patient by explaining the procedure, showing concern for comfort and modesty, oversees all safety procedures, and providing excellent images for the patient’s continuum of care in the diagnostic process. Superior customer service is paramount to the entire patient’s experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that perfects patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors- Interacts professionally with patient/ family.
  • Performs Ultrasound exams based on knowledge of abdominal, pelvic, small parts, heart and routine vascular physiology and disease- * MCH sonographers are supported by Medical Staff per policy to provide an emergent impression to the ordering provider when needed. Providers should always refer to official Radiology reports.
  • Perform MFM scans
  • Records images and completes required worksheets for the interpreting Radiologist.
  • Provides care proper to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
  • Assesses patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes the right physician contact for intervention.
  • Follows ALARA principles ensuring lowest dose to get acceptable diagnostic quality imaging.
  • Selects proper equipment, technique, and protocol to use for procedure and decides most suitable anatomical posture and positions.
  • Responsible for safe handling of equipment
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures, follows universal precautions- manages/ starts IVs for Radiology needs.
  • Helps in keeping basic records and reports.
  • Helps in training of students and ancillary personnel.
  • Take ultrasound calls according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours if needed.
QualificationsPhysical Requirements:
  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Hand and eye coordination
  • Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasonography
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) experience preferred but not required
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
  • Sonographers performing Echoes should be registered or registry eligible in Adult Echo
  • Sonographers performing breast imaging should be registered or registry eligible in Breast
  • Certified by the State of North Dakota to practice and administer ultrasound.
  • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate
  • Registry-eligible candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Current BCLS certification.
