Job description

We are the heart and science of medicine. We are UVM Medical Center.

We are seeking an exceptional Sonographer to join our patient-centered team of professionals who foster a culture of caring and provide an excellent patient experience. Join us as a Sonographer with the Ultrasound Team and enjoy the benefits and career growth opportunities at this world-class academic medical center located in Burlington, VT.

Job Description:

The Staff Sonographer performs a variety of routine and complex imaging procedures using high-frequency sound waves.

  • Ultrasound imaging can be affected by various tissues and materials such as lung, bowel gas, and bone. Obtaining a sonogram requires technical skill to adjust the machine, experience to find appropriate "windows" for transmitting an undistorted ultrasound beam, and diagnostic knowledge to obtain additional images tailored to the diagnosis and abnormalities observed.
  • This level of customization and the ability to recognize and diagnose pathology distinguish sonographers from other imaging technologists in radiology.

The Staff Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasounds and other modalities as required within their department(s). Examinations are conducted independently, under physician supervision, and with peer collaboration as appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a certified CAAHEP school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiologic Technology, or an equivalent allied health program.
  • ARDMS registration with an ABD or OB/GYN credential.
Experience:

One to five years of paid scanning experience required. Candidates with additional experience and training are encouraged to apply for exciting opportunities.

Schedule:

9 pm - 7 am on Sunday, and 8 pm - 6 am from Monday to Wednesday. Future call responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs.
