Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital - Health Center in Alexandria, VA is seeking a dedicated Sonographer for a full-time, Monday–Friday schedule from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Join a nationally recognized healthcare provider committed to safety, quality, and patient experience.

The Sonographer will perform ultrasound examinations, communicate with patients, document histories, and ensure accurate results under department protocols.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Licensure: None required.
• Certification: BLS at start; ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or registry-eligible with certification within 18 months of hire.
• Experience: Recent hospital/healthcare environment in sonography or as a student.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients to obtain history and consent for exams.
• Explains procedures to patients and answers questions to ease anxiety.
• Assists physicians in examinations following standard protocols and sterile technique.
• Recognizes problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Demonstrates knowledge of graduate-level diagnostic imaging education.

Sonographer Job Responsibilities

• Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent from patients or patients' chart to assist physicians in optimizing the performance and interpretation of examinations.
• Explains procedures to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
• Assists physicians in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams, takes appropriate action to resolve them and produces the most desirable outcomes.
• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Licensure: None required
• Certification: Basic Life Support Upon Start; ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire
• Experience: Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.
