Montage Deer Valley is seeking a thoughtful Sommelier to elevate wine service at our luxury resort. You’ll guide guests through the wine list, offer recommendations, and share stories about featured wines to create memorable experiences.

You will train staff on wine service, maintain cellar standards, and collaborate with managers to manage beverage costs while delivering WOW moments for guests.

Qualifications

  • One year minimum of experience in food and beverage operations.
  • Certificate of completion from the Guild of Sommeliers is a plus.
  • Experience in luxury hotel beverage operations is preferred.

Responsabilités

  • Assist in wine sales across outlets, lounge, and banquet functions.
  • Guide guests through the wine list with descriptions and recommendations.
  • Educate staff on wine regions, varietals, and food pairings.
  • Train associates on wine service standards and decanting.
  • Maintain wine cellar in optimal condition and monitor inventory.

Your Journey
  • Assist in administering the sale of beverages in outlet, lounge, and banquet functions, as well as teaching and mentoring bartenders, servers, and other associates involved in the sale of alcoholic beverages
  • Guide guests through the wine list, offering detailed descriptions and recommendations based on their preferences and menu selections.
  • Engage guests in discussions about wine, answering questions, sharing insights, and providing memorable anecdotes or stories about featured wines.
  • Educate associates about wine regions, grape varietals, flavor profiles, and food pairings through training sessions, tastings, and educational materials.
  • Conduct associate training on wine service standards, including proper decanting, pouring, and presentation techniques.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to develop the wine knowledge and service skills of team members.
  • Maintain the wine cellar in optimal condition, ensuring proper temperature, humidity, and storage conditions to preserve wine quality.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits, monitor wine aging, and track cellar rotation to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
  • Work with restaurant management to oversee beverage costs and pricing
  • Maintain wine and cocktail lists with Bartenders and Beverage Managers
  • Attend daily pre-shift meeting
  • Deliver on guests’ expectations and have the desire to create WOW moments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned that may be outside of the normal scope of duties, based on business needs
About You
  • You are passionate about spirits, wine, and food
  • You are personable and love engaging with guests
  • You are open to learning, developing, and growing both yourself, personally, and helping others do the same
  • You are trustworthy and have integrity
Must Haves
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Basic communication skills
  • One year minimum of experience in food and beverage operations, a plus
  • Prior micros or other systems experience, a plus
  • Certificate of completion from the Guild of Sommeliers, a plus
  • Luxury hotel experience, a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and exercise mobility for extended periods of time during your scheduled shift
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and for extended periods during the shift
