Job summary

Theh.woodGroup seeks a skilled sommelier to lead our beverage program in a high-volume NYC setting. You will curate wine selections, train staff, and ensure exceptional guest service. A guest-first attitude and organized approach are essential.

Responsibilities include ordering and stocking wines, maintaining inventory, and collaborating with suppliers to secure quality offerings. This role requires 21+ age and US work authorization.

Qualifications

  • Certified accreditation preferred (CoMS/WSET).
  • Minimum 2 years in a high-volume, elevated dining restaurant.
  • Must be 21+ and authorized to work in the United States.
  • Strong communication and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete knowledge of the wine list and wine/food pairings.
  • Ensure wine service equipment is clean and in good working order.
  • Maintain cellar/storage inventory according to pars and controls; order stock.
  • Meet with wine trade to source quality wines and evaluate potential purchases.
  • Train staff to minimize waste and monitor pour levels and storage.
  • Verify accuracy of wine deliveries against orders and manage exchanges as needed.
  • Maintain beverage costs by managing purchases and requisitions.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

ROLE SUMMARY

AsSommelier, youwill be the chief salesperson and ambassador for the beverage program with knowledge ranging from beer and wine to cocktails and spirits. You willbe responsible forsettingthe stage for guest experience with your welcoming smile andexcellent customerservice. You are alsoresponsible for ensuring thewines needed for the venue are ordered, received, stocked, made available in the POS system, andaccounted foraccording to protocolon a weekly and monthly basis. The ideal candidate willpossessa guest first attitude, strong commitment to service, excellent communication, and conduct their work in an organized manner.

DUTIES
  • Maintain complete knowledge of winelist, andwine and food pairings.
  • Clean equipment, tools, and suppliesfor wine serviceand ensure equipment is in good working order, including cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance.
  • Maintain and update cellar/storage inventory according to set pars and internal controls, and request product tomaintainstock.
  • Meet regularly with the wine trade to actively seek quality wines for the restaurant wine program as well as evaluate wines and otherbeveragesfor potential purchase.
  • Eliminatewaste by training and supervising employees on wine knowledge, pour levels, proper storage,etc.
  • Verify accuracy of wine delivery ordered and received from the main warehouse and return or exchange deliveries when a warehouse error has occurred.
  • Maintainappropriate beveragecosts by managing purchases andrequisitions.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Certified accreditation from a recognized organization (Court of Master Sommelier / WSET)preferred.
  • A minimum of 2years of experience in high volume, elevated dining restaurant.
  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Mustbe authorized towork in the United States.
  • Must bedetail orientedandpossesseffective communication and written skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Self-motivated and performance driven.
  • Professional and courteous.
  • Remain in stationarypositionfor up to 8 hours throughout the work shift.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance.
  • Effective communication,writtenand interpersonal skills.
