Description

A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is seeking applications for part-time non-exempt adjuncts on the Mesa, Arizona campus. Duties include essential participation as a clinical nurse presence, and acting within clinical scenarios during various simulation events. This role requires prior knowledge of healthcare, current clinical practices, and medical simulation, as these are applied when working with learners during experiential learning events. Members of the simulation team in this role will also help with operating high and low-fidelity simulation equipment, room setup, and special events of the clinical education department.

Please note that adjunct positions are only filled on an as-needed basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Apply clinical experience and act as a clinical nurse team member to support and enhance the experiential learning of medical students during high and low-fidelity simulation scenarios.
  • Participates in event pre-brief and debrief meetings as needed, gives and receives formative feedback in discussion with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provides written feedback and assessment of student, faculty, and staff performance in simulation and debriefing upon request.
  • May participate in clinical simulations as a Simulation Operator at times.
  • Other duties that help support the clinical education department as assigned.
Skill & Experience:
  • Current unrestricted license or certification in good standing to practice as a(n) Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), medical assistant, Respiratory Therapist (RT) or similar level (or higher) healthcare professional.
  • OR - Three years’ prior experience as a(n) RN, CEP, LPN, EMT, medical assistant, RT, or similar healthcare professional.
  • OR - Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • One or two years of the following:
    • Experience as a licensed clinical healthcare provider (required)
    • Experience in a hospital (or clinic) setting such as pediatrics, OB/GYN, internal or family medicine, surgery, ED
    • Experience as highly functioning member of a healthcare team (required)
    • Experience with high and low-fidelity clinical simulation scenarios and equipment (highly recommended)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • All basic procedural and clinical hands-on skills necessary to perform clinical responsibilities within the scope of the applicant’s license.
  • Aptitude toward collaboration as a member of the healthcare simulation team.
  • Ability to act the part as the interprofessional team member (IPT) during the simulation, keeping learners on track without impeding the experiential learning process.
  • Ability to actively engage with the equipment, technology, people, and processes during simulation activities.
Additional Requirements:
  • High and low-fidelity simulation equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and programs including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office, Google, scheduling software, and LMS.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent listener with clear communication.
  • An attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
