Relaypro in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Solutions Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. You will learn how technical expertise, customer discovery, and problem-solving come together during the sales process while supporting demonstrations, tests, and enablement activities.

You will work with experienced Solutions Engineers, document workflows, configure Relay solutions, and own a meaningful intern project with mentorship and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

Solutions Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

Relay is a growth-stage tech company in Raleigh, NC, building the System of Action for Physical Operations. Frontline teams catch problems all day and say so over the radio. Almost none of it survives the shift. Relay captures it and turns it into action, through a rugged smart radio that works the way teams already do and a cloud platform that learns the operation, routes issues to the right people, and stays open until they're resolved. Fifteen years innovating in voice, 2 billion messages, 40+ Fortune 500 customers. Now we're expanding our Solutions Engineering team by hiring an SE intern with an expected graduation date in December 2027 or Spring 2028 to support technical pre-sales and solution delivery.

Role Overview

As a Solutions Engineer Intern, you will learn how technical expertise, customer discovery, and creative problem-solving come together during the sales process. Working alongside experienced Solutions Engineers and cross-functional partners, you will help understand customer workflows, configure and test Relay solutions, support product demonstrations and proofs of concept, and create technical resources that make our team more effective.

This internship is designed for a college student pursuing engineering, computer science, information systems, data science, or another applicable technical field. You will receive mentorship, structured learning opportunities, and ownership of meaningful work—without being expected to independently lead enterprise technical sales cycles.

What you will do:

• Learn Customer Discovery and Solution Design
  • Shadow customer discovery sessions and help document operational pain points, workflows, and technical requirements.
  • Partner with Solutions Engineers to translate customer needs into practical Relay configurations and solution diagrams.
  • Learn how Relay’s platform, APIs, integrations, and device capabilities support frontline operations
• Support Demos and Proofs of Concept
  • Research and organize technical information that supports customer questions, security reviews, RFIs/RFPs, and IT architecture discussions.
  • Practice explaining technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Create Documentation and Enablement
  • Document solution configurations, architecture decisions, API usage, testing results, and implementation considerations.
  • Create reusable assets such as diagrams, one-pagers, demo guides, checklists, and troubleshooting resources.
  • Help prepare clear handoff materials for Customer Success and Implementation teams.
• Complete an Intern Project
  • Own a scoped summer project that improves a Solutions Engineering process, demo, prototype, integration, or enablement resource.
  • Present your work, findings, and recommendations to Solutions Engineering leaders and cross-functional partners at the end of the internship

Required Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, data science, or another applicable technical field.
• Expected graduation date of December 2027 or Spring 2028.
• A strong academic record; a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above is preferred.
• Relevant technical experience gained through coursework, labs, research, internships, student organizations, hackathons, or personal projects.
• Foundational understanding of software, systems, networking, cloud technology, data, or connected devices—and an eagerness to deepen that knowledge.
• Some familiarity with APIs, JSON, scripting, or application integrations through coursework or projects; deep professional experience is not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to ask thoughtful questions and explain ideas clearly.
• Curiosity about customer problems and enthusiasm for learning how technology can improve real-world operations.
• A collaborative, dependable approach and comfort receiving feedback, iterating, and learning from others.
• Ability to work full-time onsite at Relay’s Raleigh, NC headquarters for the duration of the summer internship.

Nice to Have:

• Exposure to technical presentations, demonstrations, consulting, sales engineering, customer service,or other customer-facing work.
• Experience with REST APIs, Postman, Python, JavaScript, data visualization, networking, or cloud platforms.
• Interest in frontline operations, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, industrial technology, IoT, or automation.
• Experience building or explaining a technical project to an audience through a class, club, competition, internship, or personal project.
