Solutions Design Engineer, Operations Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Solutions Design Engineer who is detail-oriented and capable of analyzing and improving processes, equipment, and procedures within our APAC fulfillment network. The role involves designing and developing layouts for new and existing fulfillment centers.

The ideal candidate will have a background in developing high-performance physical systems, strong technical problem-solving skills, excellent project management abilities, and motivation to succeed in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. Amazon values innovation and ownership, expecting engineers and managers to proactively solve complex problems.

This role offers opportunities to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures. The position is based anywhere in Australia, with up to 50% travel domestically and within the APAC region.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges, considering human/equipment interactions within the APAC fulfillment network.
  2. Lead and coordinate design efforts for optimal solutions, including equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, and site layout.
  3. Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to create innovative solutions.
  4. Manage high-visibility projects, influencing and communicating effectively with internal and external partners.
  5. Conduct post-implementation reviews in collaboration with Safety and Operations teams.
  6. Work with start-up and launch teams to ensure thorough planning and documentation of layouts, modules, and SOPs.
  7. Develop and maintain design standards in coordination with global teams.
  8. Build strong relationships with key partners across various departments.
  9. Travel up to 50% to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial, operations, manufacturing, or project engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
  • Intermediate skills in AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing third-party vendors.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, lean manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with automated material handling systems, packaging technologies, and storage solutions.
  • Multilingual abilities, including English and other languages such as German, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, or Zulu.
