An established organization is investing in a major technology modernization effort. The company offers a collaborative environment where experienced professionals can influence technology decisions and improve how the business operates.
We are seeking a Solutions Architect to lead the technical design of enterprise modernization projects. This individual will translate business needs into secure, reliable solutions that connect business applications, data, integrations, and cloud and on-premises technologies.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, independent problem-solving skills, and the ability to explain complex designs to both technical teams and business leaders. This is an individual contributor position with significant responsibility for guiding architecture decisions and supporting successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet with business stakeholders to understand processes, clarify requirements, and develop complete solution designs.
- Map application relationships, integration points, data responsibilities, and dependencies across existing and proposed systems.
- Assess commercial software, SaaS platforms, and custom applications to determine the best approach for business requirements.
- Prioritize standard product functionality and configuration before proposing custom development.
- Establish consistent approaches for APIs, middleware, messaging, event-driven integrations, and file transfers.
- Incorporate validation, exception handling, retries, logging, monitoring, and reconciliation into integration designs.
- Collaborate with application and analytics teams to establish trusted data sources and limit unnecessary duplication.
- Plan phased upgrades and replacements for aging applications while maintaining essential business functions.
- Coordinate with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams on access controls, connectivity, credential protection, performance, availability, and recovery requirements.
- Compare technology options based on business benefit, cost, security, scalability, ongoing support, and implementation risk.
- Produce architecture diagrams and maintain clear records of interfaces, design decisions, and technical risks.
- Advise developers, vendors, and project teams during development, testing, rollout, and post-launch support.
- Provide leadership with regular progress updates and clear explanations of recommendations and trade-offs.
Qualifications:
- At least eight years of relevant experience across enterprise technology, software development, systems integration, or architecture, including approximately four to five years in solutions architecture.
- Demonstrated success designing and guiding implementations involving business applications, APIs, middleware, databases, cloud platforms, and legacy technology.
- Experience integrating packaged software and SaaS applications into an enterprise environment.
- Ability to independently investigate unfamiliar systems, ask effective questions, and develop practical recommendations.
- Strong architecture diagramming and technical documentation skills.
- Understanding of identity and access management, secure integrations, DevSecOps, and system monitoring.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Sound professional judgment, accountability, and a record of following initiatives through to completion.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology or engineering discipline strongly preferred; substantial relevant experience and demonstrated architecture leadership will also be considered.
- Experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing, energy, or another project‑intensive industry preferred.
Additional Details:
- This position has no direct reports and serves as the primary Solutions Architect.
- The role works closely with IT leadership, application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and external partners.
- The interview process includes a discussion of professional experience and a scenario‑based system design exercise focused on requirements discovery, architecture diagrams, and presentation skills.
