Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to lead the architecture, design, and documentation of a custom-built software solution that is already in progress. The role involves defining the technology roadmap, guiding the transition from the existing FACS mainframe system (COBOL, IDMS) to an Azure Cloud-based solution, and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards. The Solutions Architect will collaborate with product owners, architects, technical teams, and internal and external partners to deliver scalable, reusable, and secure solutions that support current and future business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the transition strategy from the FACS mainframe system (COBOL, IDMS) to a custom Azure Cloud-based solution.
- Support architecture planning across user experience, authoring, information, application, mobility, analytics, and other capabilities within an Azure tenant.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, the Product Architect, and Business Analysts to understand and document current-state and future-state business drivers, capabilities, and processes.
- Define and communicate technology possibilities, architectural options, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Evaluate technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to deliver business value and meet project objectives.
- Develop and extend the Architecture Runway to support delivery milestones and the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) release.
- Drive technology maturity, readiness, and alignment with IT investments.
- Collaborate with application, platform, and service owners, Vendor Management, Regulatory, Security, Compliance, and State and Federal partners.
- Work with IT leaders to define approaches to data integration, infrastructure, technical debt, and operational readiness.
- Introduce reusable design components and architectural patterns and recommend their appropriate application.
- Create and maintain standardized solution architecture artifacts to support collaboration, analysis, and decision-making.
- Document architecture decisions and contribute to strategies, policies, standards, and guidelines aligned with business objectives and enterprise architecture.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, and Security Architects on product roadmaps, data models, and security reference architecture.
- Lead and present during Architecture Review Board checkpoints.
- Provide architectural guidance and consultation for proof-of-concept initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Proven strategic planning experience supporting large, complex enterprise systems.
- Experience working across multiple technologies, platforms, and processing environments, including on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Ability to identify complex technical and business problems and develop architectural strategies that address current and future requirements.
- Demonstrated architectural experience across multiple technical disciplines, including storage, networking, compute, voice, video, artificial intelligence, and application development.
- Ability to translate business needs and future-state capabilities into solution architecture requirements.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Experience building core platforms using common architectural patterns and reusable components to support a broad range of customer-facing solutions.
- Experience with industry-standard modeling languages and notations, such as ArchiMate and BPMN 2.0.
- Experience with enterprise architecture tools, such as Bizzdesign, for solution architecture modeling.
- Experience using Lucidchart or similar tools to collaboratively diagram, visualize, and communicate complex information.
- Experience delivering solutions in iterative Agile product environments.
- Working knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, encourage innovation, and mentor team members.
