Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a software engineer to design, develop, and install high-quality software solutions. You will work within Agile or Waterfall teams, collaborating with PMs, architects, and business stakeholders through requirements, design, development, testing, and production support.

Responsibilities include building and supporting enterprise applications, diagnosing production incidents, and creating technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
• 5 years of relevant work experience is required.

• Produce and maintain appropriate technical documentation, including application architecture, interfaces, dependencies, support procedures, and solution designs.
• Support Business Analysts and business stakeholders with the creation and execution of System Test cases
• Build trusting relationships and work collaboratively across IT and Business teams, system integrators, vendors, and job families to accomplish complex goals.

Preferred Requirements

• 5+ years of enterprise application development and support experience.
• Strong SQL Server reporting development and performance tuning skills
• Experience with C# and .NET applications
• Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD), SSO, OAuth, OIDC and SAML
• Experience with REST APIs, web services, IIS, certificates, OData, SQL Server Management Studio, PowerShell, and system/database integrations.

Preferred Experience

• Claude, Git Hub, Jira, CI/CD Pipeline, Oracle WebLogic, Automated Testing, APIs
• Demonstrate critical thinking, urgency, and attention to detail to support real time operations
• Experience in the electric utility industry or other regulated environment and understanding of utility business processes.
• Experience with application upgrades, migrations and vendor implementations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both end users and technical teams.
• Ability to independently manage technical problems and deliver solutions from concept through implementation.
• Proven ability to work across vendors and cross-functional teams.
