Job description

SOLIDWORKS DESIGNERS - LEVEL 1 & LEVEL 3
Houston, TX | Full-Time
2 Openings Available

We are looking for two SolidWorks Designers at different experience levels to join a growing Design & Drafting team supporting complex engineered and manufactured equipment.

We are hiring for:
Pay Range: $65,000-75,000 annually | Non-Exempt

This opportunity is designed for a developing designer who has hands-on SolidWorks experience and a foundation in mechanical, structural, piping, or industrial design.

Pay Range: $90,000-110,000 annually | Non-Exempt

This opportunity is intended for a highly experienced designer capable of independently executing complex design and modeling assignments and producing production-level drawings with limited direction.

Candidates will be considered for the level that most closely aligns with their experience, technical capabilities, and demonstrated proficiency.

What You'll Do

As a SolidWorks Designer, you will translate engineering intent, customer requirements, specifications, and manufacturing constraints into detailed 3D models, equipment layouts, assemblies, and production-ready drawings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, site layouts, equipment layouts, piping plans, specifications, bills of materials, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Create detailed 3D models and layouts using SolidWorks.
  • Develop mating surfaces, extrusions, assemblies, library components, and exploded-view diagrams with BOMs.
  • Produce layouts and section views with accurate dimensions, callouts, and bills of materials.
  • Support the design of weldments, pipe routing, skids, and piping systems.
  • Review project scope documents and specifications to verify designs against engineering intent and customer requirements.
  • Maintain drafting schedules while ensuring accuracy and quality of deliverables.
  • Participate in model reviews and follow established design and drafting processes.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, purchasing, production, and other departments throughout the design process.
  • Develop production-level drawings used to support purchasing and manufacturing.

We're looking for someone who has a strong technical foundation and is ready to continue developing their design capabilities in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Ideal Level 1 candidates will have:
  • Hands-on experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling and design.
  • Experience or foundational knowledge in mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, piping, or industrial design.
  • Ability to produce models and drawings under the direction or supervision of senior designers and engineers.
  • Basic understanding of package/plant designs, equipment layouts, maintenance requirements, and clearance constraints.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Awareness of relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to develop technical expertise.
Level 1 Compensation: $65,000-75,000 annually | Non-Exempt

We're also looking for a senior-level SolidWorks Designer who can take greater ownership of complex design assignments and deliver production-ready work with limited direction.

Ideal Level 3 candidates will have:
  • 8+ years of relevant mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, piping, or industrial design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks and production-level 3D modeling.
  • Strong experience with weldments, pipe routing, skids, and piping design.
  • Experience producing complex package/plant designs and equipment layouts.
  • Ability to independently create production-level drawings for purchasing and manufacturing.
  • Broad understanding of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems.
  • Knowledge of maintenance, operational, and equipment clearance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards and codes, including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and building codes.
  • Ability to execute projects with limited direction while collaborating effectively with engineers and other designers.
Level 3 Compensation: $90,000-110,000 annually | Non-Exempt
Preferred Experience - Both Levels

Experience in any of the following areas is especially valuable:

  • HVAC systems
  • Packaged or modular equipment
  • Manufacturing environments
Education
  • High school diploma required
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or graphic/design-related field is a plus.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

These positions provide an opportunity to work on complex engineered equipment that moves from 3D design through purchasing and manufacturing. You'll collaborate directly with engineering and manufacturing professionals while developing designs incorporating structural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and piping systems.

Whether you're an earlier-career designer looking to expand your technical capabilities or an experienced designer ready to take ownership of sophisticated design work, we are looking for talent at both levels.

If you have experience with SolidWorks, 3D modeling, mechanical design, piping, skid design, or industrial equipment, we encourage you to apply.
