Job summary

The City of Valdez is seeking a Solid Waste Tech I to operate heavy equipment, load/unload refuse, and manage baler operations at the landfill. The role requires a valid Alaska CDL-B, TWIC, and strict safety adherence.

This is a full-time, hourly position with benefits, working a 37.5-hour week and potential non-standard scheduling. Benefits include retirement, health insurance, holidays, PTO, training, and relocation support.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with safety regulations.

• Performs proper disposal of hazardous waste and recyclable materials.
• Maintains truck logs, inspection forms, and daily trip reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The City of Valdez is hiring a Solid Waste Tech I at the Baler Facility. This position, under general supervision, drives a truck to collect, transport and dispose of refuse and trash, operates within the baler facility and at landfill as needed. This position required a pre-employment UA/BA and is part of the City of Valdez DOT random testing program.

This is a fully-benefited, full-time hourly position working 37.5 hours per week with a potential non-standard schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in internal and external environments with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, materials and airborne and blood borne pathogens, and frequent walking, bending and lifting. Employee may be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.

• Maintains truck log, truck inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.
• Assists with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.
