Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Temporary Solid Waste Technician (Transportation) to operate equipment for street maintenance and waste collection. The position offers an hourly rate of $23.50 and may lead to a permanent role based on needs and performance.

Responsibilities include maintenance of streets, milling and paving tasks, and handling water and sewer components as needed. CDL-B with air brake endorsement is required.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in road maintenance, underground utility construction, landscape construction or as a solid waste driver preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, maintain, inspect and remove water distribution and collection system components, including water services and mains, hydrants, meters and backflow preventers; disconnect water and sewer lines as needed.
• Drive and operate solid waste collection trucks.

This temporary opportunity may lead to a permanent position, based on business needs and performance.

Role Summary

Incumbent may be responsible for the following duties: Operating light to heavy equipment and tools to maintain and repair streets and pot holes, including plowing, salting, sanding, milling and base preparation, paving, sweeping, grading, and crack sealing; installing, repairing, maintaining, inspecting and removing water distribution and collection system components, including water services and water mains, hydrant meters and backflow preventers, sewer taps and permanent and temporary sewer and water main disconnections; driving and operating solid waste trucks for collection of solid waste.

Education, Training and Experience Required

• Must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a “B” and air brake endorsement
• Previous experience in road maintenance, underground utility construction, landscape construction or as a solid waste driver
