This position supervises and participates in the daily operations of Refuse Disposal Division.
Associate Degree; with four (4) years of supervisory experience in solid waste management or public work and heavy equipment experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
The Refuse Disposal Director and/or Landfill Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with City ordinances, waste collection and disposal procedures.
Guidelines include city ordinances, the employee handbook, and department standard operating procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
The work consists of varied supervisory duties. Inclement weather conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to supervise the provision of commercial refuse collection services. Success in this position contributes to the provision of efficient and effective services.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, representatives of businesses, contractors, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, resolve problems, and motivate personnel.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and climbs ladders.
The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts and cold or inclement weather conditions.
This position has direct supervision over assigned staff.
