Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County in West Palm Beach is seeking a senior professional to direct Land Management Services, overseeing landfill operations, yard/biomass waste management, and related environmental programs. You will plan, organize, and coordinate activities, manage budgets, and liaise with other departments.
The role requires extensive knowledge of regulatory laws, strong leadership, and the ability to develop short- and long-range programs.
Salary Range: $99,882 - $189,779
Hiring Range: $99,882 - $150,000
This is a highly responsible professional position directing the activities of Land Management Services (responsible for overseeing Class I and Class III landfill operations, onsite and offsite yard/biomass waste management, landfill gas/leachate construction support, grounds maintenance (including stormwater management system maintenance), onsite waste reduction program, closed landfill maintenance/care, and odor/litter control programs). Responsible for organizing, planning, directing and coordinating the activities of Land Management Services including the responsible utilization and tracking of the established budget.Work also includes responsibilities for planning long and short-range program/project objectives and making challenging administrative and professional decisions. Considerable authority is delegated for performance of technical and administrative activities. The major emphasis of work is on overall administrative planning and coordination requiring the exercise of sound technical, operational, and business management practices. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and requires persistence, reliability, dependability, and accountability in all aspects of the defined role.
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Landfill and Grounds Maintenance Departments. Manages subordinate administrative staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Frequent field visits combined with office work for documenting, reporting, budgeting, and planning. While often a Monday-Friday work schedule, the role may require working evenings or weekends for emergencies or special projects.
