Job summary

City of Abilene, Texas seeks a Recycling Center Specialist to operate front loaders, grinders, wheel loaders, and roll-off trucks. You will train new employees in safe operations and support daily recycling center activities.

Requires knowledge of heavy equipment, safety practices, and basic computer use. CDL is preferred, with focus on teamwork and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment at the Environmental Recycling Center.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in collection of offsite recycle routes using roll-off/front loader trucks.
• Perform daily/weekly preventive maintenance on tractors and wheel loaders.
• Maintain buildings and grounds; support mulch loading and grounds tasks.
• Operate tractors and loaders for chipping, mulch loading, and grounds work.
• Support tree limb grinding operations and offsite recycle routes completion.
• Adhere to safety rules and report unsafe conditions.

Job Description

Under general supervision to perform a variety of operations at the City of Abilene Environmental Recycling Center. These duties include but are not limited to the operation of a front loader collection vehicle, operation of the horizontal grinder, operation of wheeled loaders, and the operation of a commercial roll-off truck. Providing technical supervision while training new solid waste employees on the safe operation of collection routes.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises no supervision.

Important And Essential Duties

• Assists in the collection of the offsite recycle routes operating a roll-off or front loader truck.
• Performs the daily and weekly preventive maintenance on the farm tractor, and wheel loaders.
• Maintains and makes minor repairs to the building and grounds; maintains the tree limb service areas to ensure safety and appearance.
• Operates a tractor with front loading bucket or wheel loader to assist in chipping operations, mulch loading, and grounds maintenance.
• Performs or assists in the tree limb grinding operations and in the completion of the offsite recycle collection routes.
• Follow all safety rules and report unsafe working conditions, accidents, and injuries to supervisor.

Experience And Training Guidelines

For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Experience

• Previous small hand tools, power tools, and manual work experience is required.
• 18 months of experience operating Commercial Roll Off Vehicles, Wheel Loaders and farm-type tractors is preferred.
• 1 year Utilizing Business Computers, Email, Point of Sale Terminals experience preferred.

Education/Training

A high school diploma or GED is required.

License Or Certificate

A valid Texas Class B CDL Driver’s License is required.
