Job summary

City of Abilene Environmental Recycling Center is seeking a dedicated equipment operator to perform a variety of tasks including operating front loaders, roll-off trucks, and grinders. The role supports recycling routes and campus grounds maintenance.

The position requires a Texas Class B CDL and the ability to work safely around heavy equipment, with training provided for new staff and a focus on teamwork and service excellence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas Class B CDL Driver’s License required.
• Experience operating Commercial Roll Off Vehicles, Wheel Loaders and farm-type tractors preferred.
• 1 year utilizing business computers, email, POS terminals is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection of offsite recycle routes operating a roll-off or front loader truck.
• Perform daily and weekly preventive maintenance on the farm tractor and wheel loaders.
• Maintain and repair building and grounds; manage tree limb service areas for safety and appearance.
• Operate a tractor with front loading bucket or wheel loader for chipping operations, mulch loading and grounds maintenance.
• Perform or assist in tree limb grinding operations and complete offsite recycle collection routes.
• Follow safety rules and report unsafe conditions, accidents, and injuries to supervisor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision to perform a variety of operations at the City of Abilene Environmental Recycling Center. These duties include but are not limited to the operation of a front loader collection vehicle, operation of the horizontal grinder, operation of wheeled loaders, and the operation of a commercial roll-off truck. Providing technical supervision while training new solid waste employees on the safe operation of collection routes.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises no supervision.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists in the collection of the offsite recycle routes operating a roll-off or front loader truck.

Performs the daily and weekly preventive maintenance on the farm tractor, and wheel loaders.

Maintains and makes minor repairs to the building and grounds; maintains the tree limb service areas to ensure safety and appearance.

Operates a tractor with front loading bucket or wheel loader to assist in chipping operations, mulch loading, and grounds maintenance.

Performs or assists in the tree limb grinding operations and in the completion of the offsite recycle collection routes.

Follow all safety rules and report unsafe working conditions, accidents, and injuries to supervisor.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Experience

Previous small hand tools, power tools, and manual work experience is required.

18 months of experience operating Commercial Roll Off Vehicles, Wheel Loaders and farm-type tractors is preferred.

1 year Utilizing Business Computers, Email, Point of Sale Terminals experience preferred.

Education/Training

A high school diploma or GED is required.

License or Certificate

A valid Texas Class B CDL Driver’s License is required.
