Join our team as a Solid Waste Heavy Equipment Operator 1 POS # Various at Cumberland County, NC. This role involves operating heavy machinery at the Ann Street Landfill, supporting waste management and environmental sustainability efforts.

Job Responsibilities

1. Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as bulldozers, dump trucks, loaders, and excavators to compact, cover waste, and assist in road construction.
2. Conduct routine inspections, perform maintenance, and keep accurate records of equipment usage.
3. Ensure compliance with safety standards and landfill policies, monitor activities, and report violations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, plus six months of experience operating heavy equipment in a landfill or construction setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of heavy construction and landfill equipment operation, safety procedures, and ability to perform minor repairs.
• Ability to follow instructions, exercise tact, and perform physical labor under varying weather conditions.

Conditions of Employment

• Obtain Landfill Operations Specialist certification within one year.
• Pass pre-employment physicals and drug screenings.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; if from another state, obtain NC license within 60 days.
