Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) seeks an Upholsterer Foreperson to supervise the upholstery shop, direct skilled upholstery repair on buses and support vehicles, and provide technical guidance to the team. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and adherence to procedures while coordinating with maintenance divisions.
The position requires four years of upholstery experience, potential lead supervision, and a California license with Passenger endorsement.
This position is only open to VTA employees who are represented by the local Amalgamated Transit Union, 265
VTA buses are maintained at three bus operating divisions - Chaboya, North, and Cerone. The Cerone Overhaul and Repair department provides heavy repair, component rebuild, an electronics shop, upholstery and additional maintenance services. Bus Maintenance includes timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, and transit bus and service equipment servicing.
Under general supervision, the Upholstery Foreperson provides immediate supervision and coordination of the bus division's upholstery shop and performs skilled upholstery repair on VTA revenue service and support vehicles.
This class is distinguished from the higher class of Transit Maintenance Supervisor in that the latter has full supervisory and administrative responsibility on an assigned shift. The lower class of Upholsterer performs skilled upholstery work and provides lead supervision as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:
Training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and four (4) years of experience in upholstery work related to seat cover, backrest, and seat assembly repair. Demonstrated or potential ability to perform lead supervision over a maintenance work force.
Possession of a valid California Class B license with Passenger (P) endorsement.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and odd and unusual hours.
Evaluate employees' adherence to VTA rules and regulations and report irregularities to management.

ATU employees hired on or after January 1, 2016 contribute one-half of the \"normal cost\" toward the required employee contribution to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority-Amalgamated Transit Union (SCVTA-ATU), Local 265 Pension Plan effective 01/01/16 (1/8/16 pay date).
Social Security taxes will be deducted from each employee's bi-weekly salary.
As a condition of employment, each employee in this class must sign a payroll deduction authorization form providing for deduction of ATU union membership dues.
