Job summary

Peoria’s Public Works Department has an excellent opportunity for an Equipment Operator in the residential collection division. The ideal candidate will operate heavy equipment for tasks such as excavating, trenching, street cleaning, and delivering refuse and recycling to the landfill.

Qualified applicants will handle a variety of waste collection vehicles including front load, side load, rear load, and roll-off.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalency.
• 9-12 months of experience in a similar or related position.
• Valid Arizona Class B CDL required at hire; Class A CDL and/or Tanker/HazMAT endorsements may be required within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for tasks such as excavating, trenching, street cleaning, and delivering refuse and recycling to the landfill.
• Operate solid waste collection vehicles (front load, side load, rear load, roll-off).
• Operate an articulated tractor as assigned.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Depending on the assignment, a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and/or Tanker and HazMAT endorsements may be required within 12 months of hire.
