Job summary

City of Victoria seeks a Solid Waste Driver to operate a rear loader on established routes for collecting solid waste. The role requires physical work, outdoor exposure, and adherence to safety standards.

Candidate should possess a Texas Class B license with Air Brake endorsement (or obtain within six months) and a high school diploma or GED with two years of driving experience or equivalent. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Responsibilities

• Follows assigned route to collect solid waste using a rear loader vehicle.
• Identifies and tags receptacles not in compliance; collects out of service carts for repair or replacement.
• Cleans and sanitizes trucks; performs minor maintenance; completes daily paperwork.
• Participates in cleaning and maintaining the shop and breakroom.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Job description

Under general supervision, the Solid Waste Driver operates a truck and loader along and established routes to collect solid waste for the City of Victoria.

Salary amount offered will depend on qualifications. This is a non-exempt position.

• Follows assigned route to collect solid waste; operates a rear loader vehicle to collect (green) yard waste.
• Identifies and tags receptacles that are not in compliance with collection policies; collects out of service carts for repair or replacement.
• Cleans and sanitizes trucks; performs minor maintenance as needed; completes daily paperwork.
• Participates in cleaning and maintaining the shop and breakroom.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work is performed in an automated garbage truck throughout the City of Victoria and requires exposure to potentially dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals and substances, and various outdoor weather conditions. May be required to climb ladders and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred AND two (2) years of driving experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
