Job summary

Strategic Government Resources, Inc. seeks a Solid Waste Equipment Operator to operate municipal solid waste collection equipment on daily routes under the supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor.

The role requires a Texas CDL Class B license, ability to respond to emergencies, and willingness to work after hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities include route execution, customer communication, vehicle inspections, and documentation in routing systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Available for emergency response and catastrophic weather events.
• Available for after hours support including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Two years’ experience driving a commercial vehicle (preferred).
• Previous experience in solid waste collection operations (preferred).
• Excellent customer service skills (preferred).
• Basic computer competency (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of solid waste collection equipment on assigned routes, ensuring safety and compliance with procedures.
• Maintain and document daily route sheets and notify customers of collection issues.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on collection equipment; report malfunctions.
• Ensure mobile camera system is operational and assist in documentation for service verification.
• Coordinate new customer accounts and report collection issues in the routing system.
• Report injuries, incidents, or property damage to supervisor.
• Participate in required safety, environmental, and hazardous waste training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

Under general supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor, the Solid Waste Equipment Operator, is responsible for operating a variety of motorized equipment in the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste.

Principal Duties

Current CDL holders are eligible for a $1,500 hire-on bonus.

1. Operate a variety of solid waste collection equipment to include rear-end load truck, semi-automated rural rear-end load truck, open-top brush/rubbish truck, and boom-type brush/rubbish truck on an assigned daily route performing solid waste collection activities, ensuring the safety of others, city equipment, and private property by following the proper safety procedures and by watching for pedestrians, overhead utility lines and/or other obstructions.
2. Responsible for checking daily work assignments,maintaining and documenting a daily route sheet of collection information, notifying customers of collection issues by utilizing tagging procedures, and reporting collection related service issues and/or concerns.
3. Perform routine checks on collection equipment to ensure operational efficiency and good operating condition; perform preventative maintenance checks; identify and report equipment malfunctions; clean assigned collection vehicle, as needed to include washing and lubricating vehicle.
4. Perform daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and report any minor/major repairs to fleet shop as needed.Assure mobile camera system operational functionality.
5. Responsible for sequencing new customer accounts, report collection issues, complete documentation for customer service verification in vehicle routing system.
6. Report any personnel injuries, vehicle incidents, or damage to property or containers to immediate supervisor.
7. Participate in all required training including safety, environmental compliance, and hazardous waste identification.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma or GED equivalent

State of Texas Class “B” Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

Preferred:

Two (2) years’ experience driving a commercial vehicle

Previous work experience in solid waste collection operations

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
