Job summary

Columbia County Solid Waste is seeking a full-time, salaried leader to develop and implement programs in solid waste management, with responsibility for long-range planning, strategy development and fiscal oversight.

The role includes supervising staff, building cooperative relationships with county units, and marketing and negotiating solid waste and recycling contracts with public and private partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science and two years of supervisory experience in waste and recycling programs, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive supervisory experience in Waste Management and Recycling programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical expertise for long-range planning, strategy development, and fiscal management.
• Supervise staff and foster cooperative relationships with County Board, Department Heads, Township Boards, and local municipalities.
• Market and negotiate solid waste, recycling sales and transportation contracts with public and private partners.

This employee must also be able work with the County Board, various Department Heads, and area Township Board members and local user Municipalities and private sector users. Education/Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university in environmental science and two years of supervisory experience in waste and recycling programs or equivalent, OR High School diploma or its equivalent with extensive experience including responsible supervisory skills relating to Waste Management and Recycling programs. Annual salary starting at $102,620.96 – $122,545.28, negotiable depending on individual qualifications and experience.
