Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a Solid Waste Engineer (Project Manager) to join our growing team in Detroit, MI or Toledo, OH.

You will lead landfill design and environmental infrastructure projects, coordinating permitting, design, and construction while growing CEC's solid waste practice in the region. This role offers mentoring opportunities, client interaction, and a path to ownership within an employee‑owned firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering.
• 5+ years of civil, geotechnical, or solid waste engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or Ohio.
• Experience with landfill design, environmental systems, or geotechnical engineering.
• Strong understanding of permitting and regulatory processes.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software.
• Experience with modeling tools such as HELP, HydroCAD, Slide or similar is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of landfill and solid waste infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review permit applications, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
• Perform and oversee engineering analyses including airspace evaluations, soil balance, slope stability, settlement, and stormwater management.
• Lead the design of landfill systems, including liner systems, leachate collection, stormwater systems, and landfill gas collection systems.
• Manage Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) projects for landfill cell construction, caps, and environmental control systems.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting and compliance efforts; manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
