Job summary

The role focuses on solid form characterization and particle characterization, based in Groton, CT (USA), with daily responsibilities across multiple analytical techniques and collaboration with cross-disciplinary

Qualifications

• BS with 2+ years of experience or MS in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Experience with solid state characterization techniques (X-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, DSC, TGA, spectroscopy, etc.). Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Experience and understanding of infrared spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) and/or SSNMR is an advantage.
• Experience with solving Materials Science problems via experimental approaches and teamwork.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Good organizational skills, ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interest in learning new technologies; programming experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization (e.g., X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, moisture sorption, microscopy, spectroscopy) of small molecules of pharmaceutical relevance.
• Support multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate to define and implement crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities according to project timelines.
• Support API particle characterization activities according to project timelines.
• Conduct physical and surface characterization of powders, including particle size, shape, surface energy and roughness.
• Collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation and Biopharmaceutics to align screening and characterization strategies with solid form selection for clinical studies.
• Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science experimental techniques.
• Contribute to development of new scientific approaches within Materials Science organization.
• Maintain contemporaneous and accurate entries in the electronic laboratory notebook per good practice.

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in pharmaceutical science/chemistry/chemical engineering or related field
