Job summary

David Gray Solicitors LLP is seeking a committed criminal defence solicitor to join our Crime Department. You will handle a diverse caseload, providing representation at the police station and in court, within a firm dedicated to legal aid and access to justice.

This role offers a fast-paced, supportive environment with supervision, ongoing accreditation, and opportunities to contribute to high-quality public funding work while maintaining excellent client care and professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law.
  • Duty Solicitor accreditation desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to publicly funded work and access to justice.
  • Ability to undertake police station advice work, including duty rota when accredited.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational capabilities in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Professional and supportive teamwork, able to work independently when required.
  • Proactive attitude toward compliance and risk management and continuous improvement.

Solicitor – Crime & Motoring


Salary: Commensurate with experience (starting at £32,000 N.Q.)

We are looking for a committed and capable criminal defence solicitor to join our Crime Department. This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of high‑quality legal services within a firm dedicated to legal aid, access to justice, and the provision of professional and effective representation.


About The Role

The successful candidate will undertake a diverse caseload of criminal matters. The role includes providing representation at the police station and undertaking court work.

What You’ll Be Doing


  • Providing clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance, and representation to clients across a broad spectrum of criminal matters.

Person Specification


  • A qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law; Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.

  • Ability and willingness to undertake police station advice work, including participation in the duty rota once accredited.

  • Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.

  • Strong organisational capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a high‑pressure environment.

  • A professional and supportive approach to teamwork, combined with the ability to work independently when required.
