Job Description

This role focuses on inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and refurbishing returned electronic products, with a strong emphasis on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and system-level assemblies. You will perform precise hand soldering and electronic assembly work, ensure all repairs meet established quality standards, and document repair activities and RMA statuses accurately in the database, including preparing detailed repair reports for each case.

Responsibilities
  • Perform precise hand soldering and assembly of electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs), including through-hole and surface-mount technologies.
  • Assemble, modify, and rework prototype, developmental, and production electronic assemblies and PCBA units.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, assembly drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation to complete assembly and repair tasks correctly.
  • Install electronic components using appropriate hand tools and soldering equipment while maintaining high workmanship standards.
  • Inspect and test electronic assemblies using test equipment to verify proper functionality, performance, and overall quality.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in electronic assemblies, identifying root causes and performing necessary repairs or component replacements.
  • Refurbish returned electronic products and system-level assemblies to meet required operational and quality specifications.
  • Update and record all related RMA statuses accurately in the database and prepare clear, detailed repair reports for each case.
  • Ensure all work complies with IPC-A-610 workmanship and quality standards and other relevant industry guidelines.
  • Follow safety procedures related to equipment use, chemicals, ESD controls, and material handling at all times.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and production team members to resolve technical issues and meet project objectives and production schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance assembly processes, testing methods, and repair practices.
Essential Skills
  • 1–2 years of experience in electronic assembly, soldering, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient hand soldering skills for through-hole and surface-mount components on PCBs and PCBA assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly instructions, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and process documentation.
  • Strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills for working with small electronic components and detailed solder joints.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring visual magnification and close inspection of electronic assemblies.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and testing electronic circuits and assemblies using appropriate test equipment.
  • Understanding of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) controls, handling procedures, and best practices in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 workmanship and quality standards for electronic assemblies.
  • Familiarity with electronic assembly processes including surface mount, through-hole, and soldering assembly techniques.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures related to equipment, chemicals, and material handling and to use PPE appropriately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with PCBs, PCBA hand soldering, and circuit board assembly and repair.
  • Comfort working with test equipment and basic electrical measurement tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technicians, engineers, and production staff to resolve technical issues.
  • Attention to detail in documenting repair activities, updating RMA statuses, and preparing repair reports.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple repair tasks and meeting quality and productivity expectations.

The work involves hands-on use of soldering equipment, hand tools, test equipment, and magnification devices for small electronic components, all within an environment that emphasizes ESD controls, safety procedures, and the use of appropriate PPE.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
