Job summary

iMPact Business Group is seeking a Soldering Technician for 1st shift (Mon-Thu 6am-4:30pm) with overtime potential at a 6 month contract to hire in New York. The role involves hand soldering, assembly of PCBA and harnesses, and adherence to IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year hand soldering SMT/TH components per J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610.
  • Ability to inspect own work to IPC standards.
  • Knowledge of soldering fluxes, lead vs lead-free processes, and cleaning solvents.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation and BOMs.

Responsibilities

  • Hand soldering and reflow of SMT and TH components onto PCBA or harness assemblies per IPC J-STD-001.
  • Read and understand assembly drawings and work instructions.
  • Identify components, polarity markings, and correct placements on PCBAs.
  • Mount pre-assembled components onto PCB assemblies (transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, ICs, heat sinks).
  • Monitor quality and communicate discrepancies; maintain documentation.
  • Complete training and other duties as assigned.

We are hiring a Soldering Technician, 1st shift Monday-Thursday 6am-430pm with OT available.

6 month contract to hire.

Job Duties
  • Hand soldering and reflow of surface mount and thru-hole components to manufactured printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) or soldering of Cable, Wire and Harness assemblies in accordance with IPC J-STD-001.
  • Read and understand assembly drawings, visual aids and work instructions.
  • Identify electronic components, polarity markings and correct placementper designated locations on PCBAs.
  • Mount pre-assembled components, such as transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, heat sinks, wires and sockets onto PCB assemblies.
  • Work efficiently on assigned tasks, monitor and track quality of assemblies and communicate any discrepancies.
  • Complete company provided training / skills qualification.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualification Requirements & Preferred Experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience hand soldering surface mount, thru-hole components or wire, cable and harness assemblies in accordance with J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Ability to inspect your own work or the work of others to IPC standards.
  • Good working knowledge of: IPC J-STD-001 Soldering Requirements; IPC-A-610 Printed Circuit Board Acceptability Requirements or IPC-A-620 Mechanical Assembly.
  • Good working knowledge of IPC-A-7711/7721 Rework and Repair is a plus-not required.
  • Active certifications in any standards listed is also a plus.
  • Knowledge of different processes (lead and lead free) fluxes, solder, and cleaning solvents
  • Good understanding of manufacturing documentation (i.e., Bill of Materials, Assembly Drawings, PCB files, etc.) and terminology including theability to read and comprehend technical work instructions
  • Skilled using Microsoft PC
  • Experience using a data entry (ERP) system is a plus
  • Ability to work efficiently on assigned tasks, monitor and track quality of assemblies and communicate any discrepancies
  • Good attention to detail with excellent eye-hand coordination.
