About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Utility Solar Technician – Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to join our team. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants. The ideal candidate will have experience working with electrical and mechanical components in a solar power environment and will play a key role in ensuring optimal plant performance, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on utility-scale solar PV systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical, and communications issues in solar power plants.
  • Conduct performance analysis and system monitoring to optimize energy production.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E).
  • Work with SCADA systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and other power generation equipment.
  • Perform high-voltage switching operations and adhere to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, maintenance logs, and inventory records.
  • Assist with commissioning and testing of new solar facilities and equipment upgrades.
  • Coordinate with asset management and remote operations teams to resolve system performance issues.
  • Support environmental compliance efforts, including vegetation management and wildlife protection.
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications preferred).
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in solar PV operations, electrical maintenance, or related fields.
  • Certifications: NABCEP PV Associate or NABCEP PV Installer preferred. OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, and First Aid/CPR certification a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including inverters, transformers, circuit breakers, and power distribution.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems (up to 35kV) and safe switching practices.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, DAS (Data Acquisition Systems), and remote monitoring tools.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field-based environment.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, IV curve tracers, infrared cameras).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments under various weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple sites as needed.
