Solar Practice Manager

Location: Remote (Continental United States)

Are you interested in enabling project developers, financial institutions, and owners/investors to bring new projects online that support the future of energy globally? ICF’s Technical Advisory team is seeking a Solar Practice Manager to join us!

Our focus is on enabling the development and investment in energy infrastructure. As part of the Technical Advisory team, your role will involve engaging with clients and solving challenges related to the development, design, construction, operation, and analysis of solar energy projects. You'll join a motivated team of industry experts with a rewarding culture. Your responsibilities include delivering high-value technical diligence support and providing solutions for mitigating technical and commercial challenges faced by our clients. You will also have opportunities to work across various energy technologies and engage with stakeholders on industry opportunities.

Technical Advisory offers comprehensive services supporting strategic investments, portfolio management, operational planning, market developments, policy, regulatory support, and customer engagement. We collaborate across divisions such as Power and Gas Market, Environment and Planning, and Grid Engineering and Analytics. As a Solar Practice Manager, you will leverage your experience to provide Independent Engineering and Owner’s Engineering advisory services.

We are looking for a motivated, experienced Solar Practice Manager with expertise in solar photovoltaic and battery storage system modeling, construction, and operations. Your role involves leading multi-disciplinary teams on utility-scale and commercial solar projects, managing project schedules, budgets, and resources, and enhancing standards of practice. You will conduct expert reviews for PV solar projects and contribute to growing ICF’s private sector, Independent Engineering, and Owner’s Advisory business segment.

The ideal candidate will have leadership responsibilities, including managing direct reports, and will actively contribute to project execution, report writing, research, analysis, modeling, business development, and thought leadership. Travel is expected up to 10% within the continental US.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in PV solar technology and utility-scale/commercial solar project management
  • Experience managing teams with direct reports
  • Project management experience
  • Expertise in solar resource & performance modeling, construction & operations, and due diligence & risk assessment
  • Knowledge of project contracts such as PPA, interconnection, supply, and O&M agreements
  • Experience in technical research and writing industry papers
  • Ability to travel up to 10% within the US
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) designation
  • Experience in proposal writing and business development
  • 8+ years in the energy sector with PV solar expertise
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Programming skills (Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Experience with other renewable technologies, e.g., BESS
  • Strong experience with PVsyst
Professional Skills:
  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional data management, research, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication of technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Advanced MS Office skills

Pay Range: The salary range for this full-time position is $118,730.00 - $201,840.00, considering experience, skills, location, and other factors.
