Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Solar Electrical Journeyman to install, test, and maintain electrical systems, ensuring safe operation and code compliance. You will read plans, assemble wiring, and coordinate with team members on front-line maintenance in field settings.

The role requires strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, with focus on safety and efficiency in solar projects across various sites.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician licensed or equivalent credential.
• High school diploma or GED required; minimum two years of related experience.
• Ability to read plans and interpret electrical drawings; safety-conscious.
• Must have valid driver's license and be able to obtain other US work authorizations.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring and fixtures using hand and power tools.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components; test with meters.
• Install, repair, and maintain high and medium voltage systems; adhere to codes and standards.
• Review plans and work orders to determine sequence and materials; ensure safety.

Job description

Summary Mortenson is currently seeking an Solar Electrical Journeyman that will be responsible for providing skilled craftsmanship for maintenance and installation of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
• Install, repair, and maintain motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations
• Study plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations
• Repair and maintain high voltage systems
• Organize work by receiving and studying work orders; gather tools and supplies
• Read prints, layout work, and install new service
• Repair electrical problems by replacing faulty parts and components
• Maintain electrical systems by conducting system tests; complete preventive maintenance requirements
• Keep supplies ready by placing orders
• Maintain safe work environment by following standards and procedures; comply with codes
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; read technical publications
• Accomplish maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician Licensed
• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum two years of related experience
• Current driver’s license
• Ability to speak and understand English (Spanish is a plus); some ability to read plans; shown emotional intelligence; ability to operate equipment such as table saws, radial arm saws, belt & disc sanders, drill presses, fall protection equipment, rigging, and form systems
• Strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, professional customer service skills, detail orientation, active listening skills, and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements
• *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.
