The Solar Electrical Technician is responsible for the on-site operations and maintenance of small to large solar PV systems, including, but not limited to site safety, electrical system maintenance, sub-contractor management, commissioning, site field reports, and other duties as required to properly maintain and operate the site within the contractual requirements.
Candidates must have a strong background in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, preferably in commercial solar.
JOB RESPONSBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot and resolve commercial solar warranty and service issues that arise from modules, monitoring, storage, and balance of system components.
- Responsible for the completion of all commercial service and warranty related work with a focus on safety, quality, and customer experience.
- Ability to work with smart devices, gather information, and upload into the CRM Salesforce program.
- Review site drawings to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Troubleshoot PV system performance issues. Locate and isolate ground faults, arc faults or any production related issues.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting in relation to Data Acquisition Systems.
- Download log files from inverters for submission to manufacturers for review.
- Planned and unplanned overtime, limited weekend work and travel may be required.
- Communicate with internal and external customers as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Formal electrical training or 4+ years’ equivalent experience in maintaining PV electrical equipment in the commercial solar energy field.
- 2+ years’ experience diagnosing and repairing solar PV electrical systems.
- High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety requirements including LOTO, Arc Flash, JSA, etc.
- Ability to comprehend engineered construction drawings.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and adapting to change easily.
- Experience with monitoring systems to diagnose site problems.
- Able to work in a team environment or alone with no supervision.
- Able to work with different computer programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and cloud-based software systems such as Salesforce CRM platform
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently.
- Work around high voltages and currents.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work in all elements, depending on job location and time of year, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Perform work at various heights up to 50’, working from ladders, aerial lifts, or other safe working platforms.
- Ability to lift, squat, deadlift, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. daily.
- Repetitive use of legs, arms, hands, and fingers.
- Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Willingness to travel: Required
- Must be willing to travel within the state of NJ daily
- Travel to other states about 25% of the time
License/ Certification:
- Must maintain a clean driving record.
