Job summary

SpaceX seeks a Solar Cell Quality Engineer to own the solar cell fab quality, including inline and offline metrology, test acceptance logic, and disposition decisions. The role ensures no defective cells reach assembly, satellite integration, or flight, driving containment and corrective actions across production and lab environments.

You will define sampling, acceptance criteria, and reaction plans while partnering with process and equipment engineering to catch drifts early.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• 1+ year of experience in design, analysis, and/or system implementation.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in solar cell, PV module, semiconductor device, or high-volume manufacturing quality/metrology.
• Proficiency with data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, JMP, R) and comfort with statistics.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in a production and lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Own quality of the solar cell fab to prevent escapes to module assembly and flight.
• Define test methods, sampling frequency, acceptance criteria, and reaction plans.
• Lead root cause analysis on quality escapes and metrology failures using I-V, EL/PL, and other methods.
• Build SPC, spec limits, and action plans to catch yield, reliability, and flight risk.
• Mentor technicians and junior engineers; ensure rigor and data-driven decisions.
