Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Software Test Engineer Co-op to join our Software Engineering (RLM) located in Danvers, MA.

We are seeking a motivated and versatile Co-op student for our Software Test Engineer role at Abiomed, starting in January 2027. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and gain hands‑on experience in software testing for medical devices, specifically using Pytest and other in‑house tools for end‑to‑end testing. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about ensuring high‑quality software and eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Test Automation: Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using tools such as Pytest and others for end‑to‑end testing of medical device software

• Test Planning: Collaborate with developers and QA team members to understand application requirements and design comprehensive test plans.

• Bug Identification : Identify, document, and track software defects and issues, and work closely with the development team to resolve them.

• Engage in Code Quality Assurance : Participate in code reviews and walkthroughs to ensure code quality and to align with industry standards.

• Test Execution : Perform manual and automated testing to ensure application functionality, performance, and security.

• Test Reporting: Generate and review test reports and provide insights and recommendations for improvements based on test results.

• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the improvement of test processes and methodologies and stay up to date with the latest testing tools and techniques.

Qualifications

Education:

• Junior, Senior, or Grad student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
• Coursework in electrical engineering, signals and systems, and embedded devices is a plus

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• Technical Skills : Familiarity with automated test frameworks such as Pytest is essential
• Database Knowledge : Understanding database concepts and experience with SQL-based databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) or NoSQL databases.
• Programming Skills : Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, Rust, Python, or JavaScript
• Version Control : Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Problem‑Solving Abilities : Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to learning and adapting.
• Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate optimally in a team environment.
• Project Experience : Proven experience through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships. Contributions to open‑source projects or a personal portfolio are a plus.

Preferred:

• Experience with Software Testing : Previous experience or coursework in Software development or testing projects.
• Familiarity with Agile Methodologies : Exposure to Agile or Scrum methodologies is advantageous.
• Interest in Emerging Technologies : Passion for learning about and working with new technologies and tools.
• Experience with Embedded Software involving Low Level Languages such as C, C++, Rust, Go is a plus

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate’s program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co‑Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co‑Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co‑Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
