Job summary

John Deere in Dubuque, IA, is seeking a Software Test Engineer for Embedded Software to join a global team driving validation and verification across construction products. You will design test plans, execute tests in bench or simulated environments, and develop automation tools to improve quality.

The role emphasizes embedded software, microcontrollers, and hardware/software interactions, with travel up to 10% domestically and internationally. Onsite in Dubuque.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated problem-solving skills to resolve technical problems such as troubleshooting software, electrical, and/or mechanical issues.
• Understanding of real-time embedded systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software interactions.
• Knowledge of vehicle communication networks and diagnostics, including CAN/J1939 protocols.
• Demonstrated project leadership and decision making.
• Ability to work in a self-directed mode.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with systems, product design, validation, and vehicle engineering teams.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 10%.

• Develop test automation tools, test cases, and scripts for automated testing
• Work with the system and software engineers to resolve issues found during testing

Your Responsibilities

What Makes You Stand Out

• Experience in software testing such as unit testing, software automation, Hardware-in-Loop, Software-in-Loop, Model-in-Loop, black box, etc.
• Experience with electrical hardware, software, and their interaction with mechanical systems
• Experience developing tools in Python
• Experience developing embedded software (design or test) including C/C++
• Experience developing control systems (design or test) in MATLAB Simulink or similar
• Experience with automotive/aviation/off road mobile equipment software development (design or test)
• Experience with technology solutions used in the construction industry, such as grade control and GNSS, telematics, etc.
• Familiarity with operating Construction, Forestry, or Ag off-road equipment

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering with a Computer Science minor, or equivalent
